RMS Review: Truancy

The Book: Truancy by Isamu Fukui
The Reviewer: Jozhua J.

Why would you recommend this book? Why not! It's the type of book that makes you think about what would happen if this was reality. It creates a world that is based on school and school alone with kids rebelling.

What did you like about the book? It pretty much answered one of my "what if" questions and caught my attention because of the fast-paced action parts that kept me on my toes.

What did you dislike about the book? In some of the scenes there was a lot of dialog. Those scenes needed more action!

Final thoughts about the book? I wuold recommend this book to boys because it is action packed and thrilling with rockets shooting all over the place.

RMS Review: The Skin I'm In

The book: The Skin I'm In by Sharon Flake
The Reviewer: Diamond F.

Why would you recommend this book? This book changed my life. It helped me learn to love myself the way that I am. No one can change me!

What did you like about the book? I liked how the teacher helped Maleeka learn to love herself the way she was. She was a good role model.

What did you dislike about the book? I disliked how the other kids bullied Maleeka.

Final thoughts about the book? Everyone should read this book! It shows how people can feel when they are not accepted.

Shark Girl

By Kelly Bingham
Call Number: F BIN

Summary: On a sunny day in June, at the beach with her mom and brother, fifteen-year-old Jane Arrowood went for a swim. And then everything — absolutely everything — changed. Now she’s counting down the days until she returns to school with her fake arm, where she knows kids will whisper, "That’s her — that’s Shark Girl," as she passes. In the meantime there are only questions: Why did this happen? Why her? What about her art? What about her life? In this striking first novel, Kelly Bingham uses poems, letters, telephone conversations, and newspaper clippings to look unflinchingly at what it’s like to lose part of yourself - and to summon the courage it takes to find yourself again.

They think they are alone in their unhappiness until they arrive at Putnam Mount McKinsey, a posh boarding school located in lovely rural Massachusetts. Here is where they will plot their revenge, but first they have to meet.
